Community Cafe coordinator selected by MKR scout
We were delighted when we received the news that one of our own staff members had been asked to join the well-known My Kitchen Rules series.
On Saturday December 5, we had My Kitchen Rules scouters walking around our markets, and they came upstairs only to find the amazing Community Café going full steam ahead (as they do every market day). Impressed by the food and the service, the MKR producers asked one of our very own staff members to join the new series of My Kitchen Rules.
Many of you would know him as our wonderful Community Café leader, Friday cooking class teacher and Eat Well Live Well program coordinator – Stephen Lunny. When the word about MKR invitation reached the office, there was no doubt about how SHNC would react! We encouraged Stephen to take hold of this opportunity, but Stephen told us that he had declined the offer because his work at the Centre is more valuable to him.
Although Stephen won’t be taking the offer, to be given it reinforces what the community already knew: there is a lot to be said for Stephen’s imagination and hard work behind the Community Café.
We were all delighted to know that the Community Café achieved what it set out to do 5 years ago (can it be that long?) – running a fun, supportive and stimulating community project that is loved by volunteers, community leaders and members. And now we know that Café is more valuable to staff and volunteers than taking part in a famous tv series.
We would like to congratulate Stephen on this achievement!
The Cafe team will be taking a well-deserved break in January, and will open again on Saturday February 6.
