Popping Pom Poms!
The most colourful one is the amazing Popping Pom Poms. Over the last few weeks the community centres and spaces in and around Surry Hills have been full of people of all ages and backgrounds weaving and colour-matching yarn and making colourful fluffy pom poms that will decorate the streets and laneways of Surry Hills on the Festival Day. The pom poms are like little burst of spring and colour that one can touch and feel and are meant to enliven, uplift and mark the come back of the warm seasons.
We can’t wait to see the Pom Pom installation on the Festival Day, but making them is half the fun! Yesterday Wednesday August 31 the pom poms brought their magic to Northcott Community Centre and Catholic Care Health Centre on Albion Street, where residents were making pom poms together with Crown School After School Care kids. 170 pom poms made!!!
But don’t worry – there are plenty more pom poms to be made and we need as many hands as possible to help us!
This Saturday September 3 the Pom Pom making workshop will take place in Shannon Reserve at the Surry Hills Market from 11am till 3pm. Our Wall of Fame booth, where you can dress up and pose for a photo as one of the notorious figures from the history of Surry Hills, will also be open.
All activities are kids friendly and lots of fun guaranteeeed! See photos and news from Surry Hills Festival here – Surry Hills Festival Facebook.
